BIO-PROCESS LAB:

Students will answer a series of questions designed to test biological lab skills such as measurement, observation and interpretation

BOTTLE ROCKET:

Participants will design, construct and test one or two rockets made from a 2 litre plastic pop bottle which will remain aloft for a maximum period of time.

BRIDGE BUILDING:

Students will design, build and test a bridge which can hold up to 20 kg.

NAKED EGG DROP:

Students are to design and build a cargo crate on-site to safely protect an egg dropped from a high place.

DON'T BUG ME:

This event will require knowledge of taxonomic keys, habitats, life history and geographic distribution.

EARTH, SEA & SKY

Teams will work at stations that display a variety of earth science materials and related earth science questions.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN:

Given a set of unknown objects, teams will design and conduct an experiment.

FOSSILS

Students will identify, describe, and classify various fossil specimens.

MISSION POSSIBLE:

Participants will design and build a Rube Goldberg-like device which demonstrates a series of energy transfers to accomplish a specific task.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE LAB:

Students will complete activities and answer questions about density of solids, liquids and gases; determination of concentrations; and an experiment using Archimedes' principle.

PROPELLER PROPULSION:

Students will design and build a propeller propelled aerodynamic device for greatest time aloft.

SCIENCE CRIME BUSTERS:

Students correctly identify liquids, solids and other materials in the shortest amount of time in a crime scenario.

SCIENCE OF FITNESS:

Students will be tested on their knowledge of fitness concepts.

SURFING THE NET:

Students are asked to find information using the World Wide Web.

TRAJECTORY:

Students will design, construct, calibrate and shoot a device capable of launching a tennis ball into a target area of sand.

WATER QUALITY:

Students will demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of aquatic ecology, water resource management, water treatment practices and aquatic chemical processes.

WHEELED VEHICLE:

Contestants will construct and bring a vehicle which uses some sort of non-metallic elastic device as its sole means of propulsion.

WRITE IT DO IT:

Students will prepare a written description of a contraption an other students in a separate room will attempt to recreate the contraption using only the written description.
