Durham Math Olympics (May 31, 1999) The Durham Math Olympics for grade 7-8 students were held at the
Education Centre in the morning of Monday, May 31. School teams were made up of 4 students, which included 2 girls, two boys, 2 grade 7s and 2 grade 8s. Parents and teachers escorting the teams assisted with the
running and marking of the contest. Students worked in groups of 2 or 4 to solve Tangram puzzles and challenging word problems. Also, after a technological demostration of graphs generated by walking in front of a
motion sensor, students solved puzzles related to the analysis of distance and velocity graphs. Following are the results of the contest. Gold Medal: Frenchman's Bay P.S.

(E.A. Fairman P.S.) and Susan Sleith (Glengrove P.S.).
Congratulations to the team from Frenchman's Bay P.S. for winning the Ontario
Math Olympics! The Ontario Math Olympics were held at York University on Saturday, June 5. Students also attended a technology session on Friday evening to familiarize them
with the software Geometer's Sketcpad, that was used in part of the contest.
