High School Equivalence
The GED is an equivalency examination which,
when successfully written, qualifies the applicant
to receive a certificate from the Ministry of
Education verifying that he/she has an education
level equivalent to an Ontario grade twelve (12)
diploma.

Are you 19 years of age or older and without
a high school diploma? Would you like to get a
high school equivalency in a short period of time?
If you answered yes to both of these questions,
there is an opportunity for you - the General
Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate.
GED certificates, issued by the Ministry of Education
and Training, are recognized in these areas as
equivalent to a high school diploma for education,
employment and training opportunities.
The GED examination consists of five (5) subject

To pepare for the equivalency examination:
- Purchase a Canadian edition study guide
(for example The Complete Canadian GED Preparation
Guide) at a major book store. Work through
the sample questions and quizzes.
- If you have done well in the samples, complete
and mail the official application form (copies
are available in our office or from the MInistry
of Education at 800-573-7022, with your cheque
for $80.00, a photocopy of an official document
that has your date of birth and a picture of
you. Indicate three (3) dates (dates are provided
with the application form) that you wish to
write the test.
To qualify you must:
- Be 19 years of age and over.
- Not be a graduate of high school.
- Have been out of the school system for at
least one full year prior to taking the GED.
- Be a resident of Ontario.
