What is Cooperative Education?

Co-operative Education is a partnership between our school and employers in the community. Students are able to attend school and be placed in a meaningful work situation. This relates to what they learn in school.

Benefits From Cooperative Education

• The student can explore career choices
• The student develops confidence as well as attitudes and skills necessary in the work place
• The student can earn references for entrance to college and university programs
• The student can earn credits outside the regular classroom
• The student can make contacts for future employment

Opting to earn your credits outside the walls of Dunbarton High School is an important decision to make – one that requires a lot of thought. Ask yourself…

1. Is experience required for a college course or job that interests you?
   Co-op may be for you!
   
2. Would working during the afternoon at a Co-op placement interfere with a part-time job or an extracurricular activity?
   Maybe not!
   
3. Do you have a keen interest in a school subject that you would like to investigate further?
   
4. Would you regret not seeing your friends at lunch or after school?
   Maybe not!
   
5. Are you  anxious to take on more responsibility than you are able to in the class room ?
   Co-op may be for you!
   
6. Would you mind spending time each day taking public transit to and from your Co-op placement?
   Maybe not!
   
7. Are you considering an apprenticeship when you graduate from Dunbarton?

8. Do you understand that once a commitment has been made with a Co-op employer, you do not  have the same opportunity to change courses that you have in school ?
