Music has done a lot for me. When I first came to this school,
Mr. Jackson wanted to basically kill me. I was unorganized, irresponsible
and didn't really care about anything. With Mr. Jackson and his methods
and outlook of music that he shared with me, I learned that there is so
much more. He's been there for others and myself no matter what the problem.
He has put in many sleepless nights for all of us with no thought of even
thanks in mind. He has helped me to organize my time better and become
much more responsible. In general, he has made me a better person. |

Mr. J also made me realize my real goal in life. Which was to become a
pilot. When I first came to Exeter I was a horrible trumpet player only
in music to get my arts credit but Mr. J made it fun. So band was the next
big step, I never cared about coming in that early it was just fun. Mr.J
is the teacher that I want to tell my kid's about the teacher that I
will remember for the rest of my life. |

takes time out of their day to do extra circular. |

I always thought music wasn't worth my time because it was too
hard and I never enjoyed it but then I was forced to take a music course.
Seeing that I had failed music in Elementary school, I thought I had no
chance, but Mr. J was really patient and helped me out a lot. I passed
the course, enjoyed myself, and never thought twice of joining band again.
The amazing thing is that Mr. Jackson's help wasn't limited to music, but
whenever I had a question on anything, he always (somehow!) knew what the
right thing to say. |

Wow, what can I say. It is incredible how Mr. J has changed my
life. When I first met Mr. J. I was in grade eight and just starting out
on the trumpet, I had no clue in what I was doing and my previous music
teacher had destroyed what little hope I had for myself. Mr Jackson has
since then given me so much hope, courage, faith, ability, confidence and
love for music. Every day he gives me hope; in that one day I will make
it. One particular day i felt my music was going nowhere. He helped me
though it, and put his hand on my shoulder and said" you're gonna make
it kid". That small phrase has totally changed me. I have quoted on a laminated
post note that I always carry on me in pocket. He puts me through a rough
practice, the day and what ever doubts I have about anything. He will go
to any length to teach something. He is having my music class square dance
to teach me to internalize a beat. He has taught me more then music, he
has taught me about life, compassion, to learn, wisdom, faith, and so much
More. I can't express my thankfulness in words. I thank him from the absolute
bottom of my heart and I look forward to the next two years. |

I am in now he helped me over come my shyness and has given me some opportunity
I don't think other schools may have. All in all Mr. Jackson has helped
me with more then just music but life it self. I now have a better view
on music and jazz. |

When I got into music in Grade nine, I thought it would be a one-year thing and I would be done. By the end of semester two (when I had grade nine music), I had been almost completely convinced that I should do music in grade ten. The two years I spent in the music program were the best and I owe a lot of my clarinet skills to him. |

The music program at Exeter High School has been my academic career for the past four years. The school has one teacher for the program who has taught me not only about how to play instruments and appreciation of music but he has also befriended me. He has helped me by providing a shoulder to cry on or an attentive ear as I have done in another class or what a wonderful day I have had. He is truly the fairest teacher I have met. No other teacher I know creates personalized exams for their entire class, keeping in mind each student's abilities, strengths, and weakness. While
marking practical test, he once again keeps the individuals best interest at mind. I aspire to become an excellent teacher and humanitarian when I seek for work as an educator. |
