Where in Canada is Port Perry?

Canada is a northern country stretching from "Sea to Sea to Sea". It is bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean, the north by the Arctic Ocean and the east by the Atlantic Ocean. We share our southern border with the United States of America.

Scugog Township is located within Durham Region. It is one of the larger townships and Lake Scugog is located within it's boundaries. Durham Region stretches from Lake Simcoe all the way to Lake Ontario. To the west of Durham region is the large region of Metropolitan Toronto.

Well, as you can see, Port Perry is the main community in the bustling and busy Scugog Township. We are proud of out 180 year history here... and if you read on, we would like to tell you all about it.

Perhaps we should start with the name "Scugog". It comes from an Ojibwa word meaning "an area of marsh and swamps". Now we are not swamp dwellers here, but we do love our large wetland wildlife areas. Shortly after settlement began, the Scugog River was dammed up downstream to create our beautiful lake. In 1850, Peter Perry, an entrepreneur from Whitby to the south of us, created a town plan and the rest is History. We took our name from this illustrious gentleman. (For more on our history... check it out under the Human Geography section).

Who Are We?

We would like to introduce ourselves to you at this point. We are all students at Port Perry High School, or as we call it "The High School". You can see a picture of our school above. We are all members of a senior Geography course called "GEO-TECHNOLOGY". In this course we have been learning the new skills of Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning Systems, Geography on the Web, and many more exciting things. This project was one of the more interesting and creative ventures we attempted. Our class picture is below.
