Water Systems In Scugog Township
The Drainage Basins Of Scugog
The Lake Scugog/Trent Basin
The Beaver(ton) River/Severn Basin
The Township of Scugog is divided into three separate drainage basins: the Lake Scugog/Trent Basin, which drains the majority of water in Scugog Township into Lake Scugog and eventually Lake Ontario. The Beaver(ton) River/Severn Basin, which drains from the northwestern area of Scugog Township through the Beaver(ton) River to Lake Simcoe. And finally the Chalk Lake Basin drains precipitation from the southwestern corner of the Township (Oakridges Moraine) into Chalk Lake and the Lynde Creek. From there it is transported to Lake Ontario.

The Lake Scugog/Trent Basin is the largest drainage system in Scugog Township. It consists of an eastern and a western section divided by regional road 2. In the west the basin drains the Layton River Wetland and The Layton River, the Greenbank Wetland, the Utica Swamp, the Sonya Wetland, and the Nonquon River. The eastern section includes the Janetville Creek, Brown Lake, Fallis Pond, Eastcross Creek, and the Blackstock Creek. All water in the Lake Scugog/Trent Basin is drained into the Trent Waterway by the Scugog River. Water from the Trent Waterway then travels to Lake Ontario.
The Beaver(ton) River/Severn Basin drains runoff from a chain of large hills through various swamps and wetlands into the Beaver(ton) River. From the Beaver(ton) River the water flows unimpeded to Lake Simcoe where it enters the Severn Waterway. The Severn Waterway Drains into Georgian Bay and eventually Lake Ontario.
The Beaver(ton) River
The Chalk Lake/Lynde Creek Basin
Chalk Lake collects water runoff from the Oak Ridges Moraine. The Lynde Creek drains water directly from Chalk Lake into Lake Ontario.
